You’d have to be living under a rock not to be aware of sugar’s nasty affect on weight gain but did you know too much sugar in your body affects the skin on your face. The more sugar you eat, no matter if natural or processed, compromises the collagen in your skin which ends up causing glycation of the skin.
Glycation will range from mild (think crepey skin) to severe (think aligator skin). Glycation results in wrinkling, loss of elasticity, stiffness accerlated aging and compromis of the biodome (skin barrier). Celluar turnover slows creating a loss of volume and redistrubtion of fat.
The best thing you can do for glycation is prevent it from happening in the first place with a healthy diet, avoid exposure to the damaging rays of the sun, don’t smoke (it’s the leading cause of glycation), drink lots of water and get regular exercise.
So what can you do if you already have it?
There’s plenty you can do.
For starters, there are some modalities like fibroblast, microneedling (depending on severity) or derma roller. Don’t go crazy. Stick to a 0.25 size needle. You can even use a 5 Watt Radio Frequency handheld device to help with resurfacing. Get on Amazon or eBay and do your research to find a product you like and is right for your budget.
Fibroblast is something you’ll need a licensed esthetician to perform. It’s different than microneedling and is more effective for collagen rejuvenation.
IMPORTANT: You must follow these treatments with high quality products that have been scientifically formulated to speed skin’s cellular turnover and increase collagen production. That’s why I’m a fan of NeoGenesis Recovery and Sculplla Mist. The two together have an AMAZING effect on the new skin forming after these treatments. Apply NeoGenesis Recovery first. You can apply Sculplla Mist last and reapply during the day.
If you’re a licensed esthetician, you can give clients a Sculplla Facial Filler Mask treatment following these types of modalities to super charge the healing process.
Again, preventiion is the best place to start but if you’re patient and disciplined using a good eye serum, like NeoGenesis Eye Serum, twice daily will help break down some of the glycation. I like NeoGenesis Eye Serum because isn’t a waste of time and money.
It’s important to add how important it is not to give up. Depending on the severity of the area you’re treating, it can take several weeks to see results. I always recommend, prior to trying a new product or treating an area, taking a BEFORE picture. Then take a picture every 2 weeks (no make up good light and same pose) and compare. Changes will be subtle week to week so pictures help to gauge progress and will help to keep you motivated to continue. The human body has an amazing capacity to heal itself. Use good products on a consistent basis – and don’t give up!
