Three Hacks to Better Results Using Skincare Products
I cannot tell you how often I have been able to help clients, not only improve their skin, but improve the results of product use by getting them into the habit of following these three steps.
First a little bit of science…
About 60 percent of the average adult human body is made of water, according to a National Institutes of Health report. This includes most of your brain, heart, lungs, muscles and skin, and even about 30 percent of your bones. All living beings require water to sustain life.
Hack #1 – Did you guess… Hydrate!
BUT….we’ve been told to drink 8 glasses of water 8 times a day (8x8 rule) but in 2002 a study was done proving there is no scientific data to back that up. The reason is food contains significant amounts of water. For example, fruit and vegetables are high water content food. A report in 2004 demonstrates we get 20% of our water from food so this counts toward the amount of water the body needs in whole.
The NEW rule of thumb is this…if you’re thirsty – HYDRATE! It’s a good rule of thumb to hydrate with water since it’s inexpensive and won’t add pesky pounds or jack you up on caffeine. Remember, caffeine is a natural diuretic and will drain your body of water.
How can you know if you’re getting enough? Okay, this is kind of gross but necessary. The color of your urine is sure fire way to gauge – in addition to your level of thirst. Orange or dark yellow urine means you’re not getting enough water. A well hydrated human’s urine is pale yellow or nearly colorless.
Now, if you’re taking medication or lots of vitamins this will vary some but still strive to drink enough water to get to pale yellow. If you’re taking medication, exercising a significant amount, living in an arid climate, you’ll need more than someone who’s not.
Bottom line – PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY.
Here’s Why Water Matters to Your Skin…
When you’re skin is well hydrated, pores will be smaller, the natural exfoliation process works better, and the stem cells necessary for regeneration of collagen and elastin can populate instead of dwindle away. Plus, hydrated skin responds better to skincare products. you’ll waste money on quality products if you’re not going to HYDRATE yourself.
Hack #2 – Facial Massage
The muscles in our face, neck, and scalp (yes, scalp) greatly affects our appearance as we age. Repeated facial expression from smiles, grimaces, puckering the lips, eyebrow furl, forehead scrunches, over time carves creases, wrinkles, and stuck and droopy fascia.
Massage has a direct impact on the circulation of blood, lymph and oxygen. More oxygen creates a brightness to the complexion. More blood flow increases the production of collagen. Gentle massage drains lymph (the stuff filling the puffiness) and helps the detoxification process.
The benefits of massage is one reason I’m a huge fan of microcurrent treatments and the ANMA. The gentle massage that takes place during a microcurrent session (in studio or at home) has a HUGE impact on reversing the tightness, lack of circulation, and decrease in collagen and elastin.

Hack #3 – Perform an At-Home Resurfacing Mask
If you find your skin has become dull, flaky, filmy, and your pores seem to be taking over your face.. it’s time for a gentle resurfacing treatment. Now, you can do this in the privacy of your home. But don’t rush out and get an OTC mask. Please use a mask containing GENTLE ingredients in the right combination and with the proper percentages so you don’t strip away the good stuff.
This is why I love NeoGenesis Creme Enzyme Mask.
The combination of fruit enzymes exfoliates to refine, brighten and clarify the skin. It Provides energy and radiance to the skin, gently resurfaces the skin, minimizes surface lines and enlarged pores, and improves the overall tone and texture of the skin while reducing skin sensitivity and irritation.
This mask is so creamy and dreamy. You’ll love how bright and clear your skin looks. AND if you want to REALLY ramp up results, after you wash your face, add a few drops of NeoGenesis Serum, then do the mask for 10-15 minutes. You’ll feel like you just had a luxurious treatment in my studio.
